Alsace wine route question
Hello - my husband and I are going to France for 12 days in October. We're spending the majority of time in Paris, but would like to spend 2 or 3 days in Alsace, checking out the wine route. We're both avid hikers/walkers and were wondering if it's possible to walk part of the wine route, between villages? If so, where would be a good place to base ourselves?
One more question- anyone have experience hiking the Vosges mountains in the area? Thank you! |

This suggests that you will use public trnsporttion to get TO village A... and onward FROM village B? And not have a car? I can't recommend that from personal experience. You would do better to have a car. But you can hike a plenty, if you mean simply walking along the highway. Base in St. Hippolyte or Riquwihr or Ribeauville. Make a circle hike, perhaps? Or hike up to Chateau de Haut Koeningsbourg. That will work you out! Search yahoo.fr for Alsace randonnees Best wishes, Rex |
Thank you, Rex, I like the idea of the Chateau de Haut Koeningsbourg!

You're welcome. It's a very worthwhile visit, and will reward your efforts to make it up the hill.

.......there are a multitude of hiking/
walking trails all through the region and it is a very popular area for all 'types' of walkers - from cradle to (almost) grave! Here is a website for info. on the Northern Alsace: http://www.tourisme67.com/en/rando/ index-rando/php On the left side of the page is a link to Hiking in N. Alsace. |
In addition to the site cited by llamalady, these are readily available if you search as I recommend(ed) above:
