Alsace reservations needed in July?

Will be in Alsace July 5-9. Do we need reservations or can we wing it and find a place to stay.
Any recommendations on where to stay?

We stayed at the comfort inn in downtown strasbourg. the rooms were huge but i can't remember if there was air (we were there in winter). rates were very reasonable. the hotel is next to the river. we would definately stay there again. parking was 1 block away in a structure. from strasbourg you can do many day trips to baden-baden, colmar, riquewier, chateau koenisburg (sp?) etc. the hotel is also just a short stroll to the cathedral and restaurants. email with any questions.

July is a popular month there but if you have no specific place in mind ( if you do, definately book), you can wing it as there are so many signs for B&Bs and auberge=fermes.

Bonsoir maryfrank,
Hot l'Oriel in Riquewihr!
The Rest le Sarment d' Or is great also.
Enjoy!

Here's a link to places to stay in Alsace. I would definitely make reservations. I can only recommend the place where we stayed -- L'Ami Fritz in Ottrrot. I would definitely go back.

Alsace is lovely and you will have a nice trip...however it would seem that traveling anywhere in Europe in July it would be best to have reservations. It's the height of the tourist season. YOu COULD try winging it and do OK, but it might take longer at each location.
We stayed in Colmar, nice, but a CITY...and Strasbourg the same story.
"Next" time we would probably stay in one of the lovely villages on the Wine route like Ribeauville, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr. We walked around each of those villages and they WERE beautiful.
