Alsace on a Sunday??

My tenative itinery has me possibly in Colmar (and surrounding towns) on a Sunday. I've read other posts where Sunday travel can be a problem. I can re-route the trip to be in Triberg on Sunday but not sure that would be much better. Either way I'm working with a Sunday/Monday for those two areas. Does anyone have any advice or input on this?

Dear sing:

I think Sunday is a problem, depending on what time of year. We were there in November on a Sat eve/Sun/Mon morning. A few restaurants and sites were open. In the wine towns, few wineries were open, but tourist shops/sites were.

I think during the summer/fall, more will be open.

It has been about 30 yrs now, but I stayed in a hotel in a small town in Alsace and they LOCKED THE FRONT DOOR until about 10 am on SUnday. I shudder to think what would have happened if there had been a fire.

I think it depend on the time of year. We were in the Alsace area in the fall when many Germans take their vacation in the wine route area. We had the opposite problem, it wasn't that you couldn' find it open, it was do they have room for you. Sunday was wall-to-wall people and the next day, it was like a totally different place.

Thank you for the input. We will be there in late June. We will be arriving Saturday afternoon. We were hoping to hit a few wineries on that afternoon and again maybe Sunday afteroon. Has anyone been there on a weekend in June? We were planning on leaving Monday thru the Black Forest area on our way to Lake Bodensee.

Any other suggested routing?
