Alpine village close to Vienna?

We will be in Vienna for 4 days next June prior to boarding a Danube River cruise. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a day trip by train to an alpine village southwest of Vienna. I know that Salzburg is about 2.5 hours by train and Hallstatt looks like about 4 hrs. Are there any alpine villages a little closer to Vienna...something quaint in the mountains? Perhaps a chair lift to a summit?

Areas in the "Hochsteiermark" are within a couple of hours from Vienna. We have enjoyed several walks and hikes for all levels in the area; many offer summer lifts, as well. http://www.hochsteiermark.at

I hope this is helpful.
