Almost done with itinerary! Suggestions for last two days?

Hello all! We just bought our plane tickets for our honeymoon- we are Italy bound in June! We are almost done planning, and I was hoping to get some Fodorite suggestions for the last two days.

So far, it looks like this:

Tuesday, June 1- arrive Florence (staying at Il Bargellino)
Saturday, June 4- depart for Montepulciano rental (staying at the Politian)
Saturday, June 11- leave rental, headed for ???
Monday, June 13- fly home (2:30pm)

Our original thought was to return to Florence for Saturday and Sunday, but now that we have a bit of time Monday morning to travel I thought we might try somewhere else.

We will NOT be renting a car in Montepulciano (please, no arguments on that point!), so we need to stay somewhere that is easily accessible, by train or bus, to Florence for our flight.

We are leaning towards Siena- any thoughts? Would we be able to get from Siena to Florence airport by noon or so on a Monday?

Thank you!

When you say you are flying out of "Florence" are you actually flying out of the Pisa airport?

Siena back and forth to Florence..can be done by rail (sometimes involves a change at Empoli) or by bus. Many here tell you the bus is more convenient since the Siena bus station is apparently within the walls as opposed to the rail station which is located at the bottom of the hill and is a cab ride/public bus ride away. Bus also would not involve any changes.

BUT, we would need to know EXACTLY what airport you are actually using.

"topping" (or ttt--to the top) means bringing the post back to the top so more people may see it. I don't have a good answer to the question, but I know someone else will.

Hi T,

It is about an hour by bus from Siena to Florence. About 1/2 hr to the airport.

However, you never know what can happen on the way.

I suggest you spend your last night in Florence.

Bus schedules are at

I feel Siena is your best bet. The last nite is your call--you could leave by 0700 and have time.

Thank you!

I think going to Siena for at least a night would work well... we were planning to daytrip during our time in Florence, but I would rather spend all four days in Florence and have some real time in Siena.

However, I'm definitely still open to suggestions if anyone else has ideas!

Has anyone gone from Siena (by bus or train) directly to the airport in Florence? Experiences would be helpful.
