Allowed to bring food in carry-on luggage?

When traveling to Italy ... are we allowed to bring food in our carry-on luggage? We want to bring home made biscotti cookies as a gift.

As long as they're not filled with illicit substances, yes!

Just don't wrap it, as you may be asked to unwrap it!

Hi joycethd

Not only are you allowed to bring food on the plane, it is almost essential that you do. ;-)

If you are flying back to the US, the food you will be served on the long boring flight home, unless you are in the front section of the plane, will be awful. It will be inadequate, and after being in Italy, it will be even more abysmal by comparison than it ever was before.

We bring food on the plane and really enjoy it. The Italian airports have snack bars with yummy sandwiches and pastries. The dury free shops have great cookies and candies. We bring a picnic on the plane home, and it helps make the awful trip home so much better.

Bring biscotti for gifts, and biscotti to enjoy on the way home. :-)

Do Not Gift Wrap and you'll be ok IF it's not fresh foods.
