I would not think that All Saints' Day would be a problem. The Italians seem to be more interested in All Souls' Day. On that day, they visit the cemetaries and bring flowers, and other offerings to decorate the graves. But this is usually in the areas in which they live, so I don't think it would affect the major tourist spots.

A few years ago, we arrived in Milan on Nov. 2. Later in the day, the tour took us to the downtown area--central square, right in front of the Milan Cathedral. An evening Mass was posted, which appealed to us, since it was Saturday evening. Much to our surprise, it was not just an ordinary vigil of Sunda Mass, but there were two cardinals, many archbishops & bishops, lots of priests, and a group of men, who formed the choir, who processed in with great solemnity. It was a full-fledged High Mass, in honor of All Souls. The church was quite crowded and only visitors who were going to attend the service were permitted past the guards. The music and the organ were wonderful. That was our "All Souls'" experience in Milan. Ciao. mhm

Not so much for finding rooms, but train travel will be crowded as people cross the country to visit families and cemeteries. If you plan to travel on October 31 or November 1, buy your tickets a few days ahead.

We happened to be staying in Assisi on All Saints Day and it was packed. I don't know if they were day-trippers but even if only a portion stayed they could have filled up the hotels in that small city.

I arrive in Rome on Nov 1 this year and had no problem finding a hotel now, but the per night rates for Nov 1 were much higher than the days following.

I learned that the car rental office in Mestre is closed on Nov.1 and the Venice office has hours only 8-12.Rooms seem to be available.

Maybe in Italy is not an official festivity for workers. But it is here in Spain and if it is near the weekend..many people likes to have a long weekend vacation and Italy is very demanded at that time of the year.
I think perhaps in Italy have some similar vacation.
