All-in-1 trave adapters

I'm tired of the multi-piece travel power adapter kits, so I'm ready to purchase an all-in-one. The Tumi brand adapter was highly recommended to me, but it cost $50. I'm willing to spend that if I must, but I noticed that the Kingston brand all-in-one looks very similar (perhaps even made by the same 3rd party?). It's less than half the price of the Tumi, but I want something of quality that will last.

Does anyone here have an all-in-one adapter that they like?

Samsonite has one for less than $10.

It may not last 10 years - but for $9.99 who cares.

I'm not real "electric knowledgeable" but are you referring to a converter or plug adapter? I don't think the plug adapters are that expensive. We have an all in one plug adapter that has several different types of plugs that pop up or out for different countries and works just fine. It was cheap.

These adapters are not that expensive. I recently used one in our bathroom plug and when I plugged in my Jet aire styling wand and I blew the fuse! I thus ruined my Jet Aire blowdryer/styling wand that is now going for upwards to $75 on ebay! My other blowdryer and Battery charger worked, however. So, be careful to check the wattage of your hairdryers, etc. in Europe.

I'm confused. You have something that works perfectly well for you, but you want to buy something (that will surely be bigger, if it can serve as a plug adapter to all the different kinds of wall outlets in the world)...

...because it's one big piece?

Why?

And for what apliances?

Curious minds want to know...

Best wishes,

Rex

Okay... I went to tumi.com to take a look, and I will admit, it's an ingenious design.

Still, I can't imagine shelling out good money for something whose purpose is... ??

They say...

<< Works for laptops, cell phones and small appliances in 150 countries. >>

But who needs anything more than a plug adapter for a laptop... or a cell phone recharger?

And I ask again... what appliances?

I would not trust this for a hair dryer; a dual-voltage hair dryer is by far a better use of money (if you believe in hair dryers at all)...

We've bought the adapter sets, and we always end up misplacing one, and it's usually the one we need in the next country we're visiting!

Also, the set that we have was designed for U.S. appliances to go into sockets of different countries. However, my GF is originally from England so she still has some items with English plugs.

Throw in a travel iron she bought in France, and what we need is an adapter (not converter) that will allow plugs from different countries (not just U.S.) to go into sockets in multiple countries.

The Samsonite mentioned above looks like it does what I need, although it's a little bulkier than the Tumi & Kensington. As for not lasting 10 years, that's fine as long as it doesn't die on my trip!

Regarding what we'd use it for, I know that blow driers are a no-no. We always need to charge my digital camera batteries (#1 priority), but I also like to charge my iPod (mostly for the plane trips). We use a cell phone when we're in England (but not when we're just being tourists!). And there's the above-mentioned travel iron that the GF can't live without. I've had to use my Palm Pilot for the occasional overseas business trip, too. That about covers it - I'll leave the electric toothbrush at home ;^)

I bought an all-in-one unit from Radio Shack. Push out this one for UK, push out a different one for Germany, etc.

The problem was recessed plugs in Holland and Germany. The all-in-one unit couldn't handle recessed plugs. I would keep the multi-piece one just for this reason.

I took the adapter back to Radio Shack.

My samsonite version does accomodate recessed plugs - but that Tumi one sure is a more elegant design.

I have an adapter/converter all in one that I found at Home Depot for under $10.
I don't understand, if all you need is an adapter, they're quite small, why not just bring the one(s) you need for where you are going?

I paid a visit to the local Staples store last week and noticed they have a new travel area. Several choices for all in one adapters, money belts and other things. There should be a Staples store nearby most people.
