The fee really is o.k., no need to complain. I'm really amazed, how inexpensive flying still is!

I boarded an AA flight last Thursday and the FAs were all complaining about the effect that the $15 fee would have on carry ons. This was, of course, from their "selfish" standpoint.

The airlines are already charging a fuel surcharge and from everything that I have read, this is driven by the cost of fuel. Increase the fuel surcharge and eliminate a needless bookkeeping nightmare. In the end, the cost of the additional bookkeeping and collection to handle this charge will probably cut dramatically into the profits from it not to mention the negative press.

I don't have an issue w/ the $15. It just seems to be the clumsiest way possible to administer it. In the end though, if other airlines don't adopt the fee and it results in fewer passengers, then AA will find another way to get the $15. Calling the airline won't do anything. Not flying them (in huge numbers) might. But if the airfares still end up less, you fly the cheapest you can get.

Yep, $15 for a bag isn't a thing I (or anybody) need to worry about. The only thing that matters is the total.

Cheapest ticket (incl. all fees) and good airline = buy

Actually there's no need to even think about or discuss this.

Have I been drinking too much or am I in complete and utter agreement with Logos? Concentrate on the total, how the number is arrived at is completely besides the point. Worrying about what the various components of your costs are, as opposed to the total bill, is absolutely and completely irrational.

A simple solution - add $30 to every discounted fare and refund the $30 to those who don't check luggage.

A simple solution, perhaps, but it is worse for the consumer. Why pay today when you can pay tomorrow?

<<The only thing that matters is the total.

I agree, but it's getting harder to keep track of just which airline charges for what and how much.

Most of the "majors" are contemplating adding this baggage chart, after they see how it works for AA.

yep, I just got the email from United advising about the $15 for the FIRST bag.

Truly, I think this is very short sighted of airlines, of course, if they all do it, they've got us. But frankly, it's insulting to me.

If at the same time they announced that their CEO cut 2 or 3 million from their salary or bonuses I could stomach it a tiny bit more.

And US is eliminating bonus FF miles awarded to its elite members. The US board on Flyertalk.com sounds like the US embassy roof in Saigon.
