Alitalia...should we wait to buy? HM in October

The Alitalia rep just told me that there would be a special after February. WE are flying open-jaw into Rome out of Venice from Boston? How low do the fares usually go down. Is it worth the risk? He said that the flight is "almost empty" Help, I don't know what to do? It is our honeymoon!

This year many people seem to be willing to pay over a thousand smackers several months in advance of their flight date--doesn't give the airlines much incentive to lower prices as they usually do when the flights get to the 2-4 months away stage. But who knows? It all depends on how fast the seats fill--if people will pay what the airlines are asking 6 or 8 months in advance, then the airlines will be more than happy to keep selling at those prices.

Speaking from an East coast USA point of view.

So are you saying that I should wait or not risk it and book now? Remember, it's our honeymoon. The price now for 2 of us is $1773.20 with tax/fees. If I wait, how often should I be calling to make sure there still are seats?

Hi CA,

www.kayak.com is showing $820 for your itineray 10/05 - 10/19 on Continental, $833 on Alitalia.

May I suggest flying into Venice and out of Rome? More relaxing. Usually better schedules from Rome.

October to Italy, under $900 is a reasonable fare. Sure, you may find it a little cheaper, but I'd book it and spend your energy on your wedding and other aspects of the trip.

Congrats.
