Alitalia finally going belly up???

It's getting crazier every day with Alitalia. At first their website was offering huge discounts using their promation codes. Flights GVA-wherever-VCE very cheap between January and March, maybe "fuel dump" fares, who knows.... JFK or BOS at 170€ roundtrip. Now prices are down to 35€ for GVA-JFK-VCE.

Just booked a flight. If you want to try, use their japanese website, discount code is
"promojp"
http://promo.alitalia.com/japan/promocode.asp
My flights show as "confirmed". Roundtrip Europe to NYC at 35€ ain't bad. ;-)

ain't bad if they actually fly

Your linked page is only on Japanese, no translation option. Truncating to end at .com gives an Italian page offering 25% off.

I'm having some fun trying to book something. If your browser doesn't offer to translate Japanese to English, time to upgrade to a different browser (like Google Chrome).

The cheapest round trip I could find between Rome and JFK (January) was $577USD after a discount of 25,000 Yen. Not really much of a deal for winter travel. Perhaps flights that change in Rome to somewhere else like Venice are cheaper...

This is fun! Flight from Milan to JFK still shows up, others had their flights cancelled. I also have booked a codeshare flight for free. Logged in to the other airlines website, reserved my seat and printed the boarding passes. Now try cancelling this, Alitalia. LOL :-).

Alitalia stops flying to certain cities in the US during the winter season and gives the route to their codeshare partners to fly, I believe?

Chrome is cool! Clicked translate and got enough to find that the fare was only good from Tokyo or Osaka. Oh well . . .

>only good from Tokyo or Osaka
They changed the website to say this, after many people (incl. me) had already booked. At first there was no limitation. I received a "everything is canceled" mail, but it wasn't specific. Looks like everyone that used the code got exactly the same email. However, the flight still shows up as "confirmed" and I can still re-print my boarding passes.

I'll be at the airport...
