Alilaguna to Venice Airport from Dorsoduro?
 

Hello!

We're SO excited for our trip to Italy next week, the last leg being in Venice. We need your expert advice on our plans to take the Alilaguna from our hotel to the Marco Polo Airport. We're staying at the Hotel American Dinesen in Dorsoduro, near the Zattare stop, and trying to figure out how long the ride will take. I've read it can take up to 90 minutes. Our flight leaves at 10:45 am (Lufthansa), so is it safe to say we should be looking at a pick-up time of 7 am to be on the safe side?

We've been looking through all other options, but it seems like hired water taxis, which may take shorter, are expensive. The most reasonable one we found was on Viator, but it had mixed reviews, and we're not sure entirely about where we're meeting the boat.

Any tips and suggestions welcome! (We're willing to spend up to about 40 euros for a transfer.

You could take a vaporetto from Zattere to the Pizzele d. Roma, and the take a bus direct to the airport. The bus runs every half hour and its a short ride, about 20 miuntes. Allow for time to clear security at the airport.

Last month my friend did similar to what miaxima wrote. His first time in Venice and I was leaving Venice separately by train. So first I took him to Piazzale Roma by Vaporetto No2 from Accademia ( we were also staying in Dorsoduro and Zattere and Accademia were about the same distance - from American, I think, about the same as well) and put him on the Bus No5 for the airport. It takes a bit shorter than from Zattere by No2 - clockwise via Giudecca. From Accademia is No2 counter clockwise on Grand Canal. Well timed with bus connection and all took him is 1 hour to get to the airport for less than half the price of Alilaguna. But I see an advantage of Alilaguna direct to the airport, stress free even if it takes longer.

A couple of comments:

Agree with max and kap about the bus. It's something to consider.

A question: How many in your party. If only 2, then the bus or the Alilaguna would probably be the best choices. If 4 (or more), the water taxi might not be so bad. I think they charge about 90 euros, and it seems to me your hotel could recommend someone. Again, though, that's practical only if you have a larger group.

The #5 Aerporto bus from Piazalle Roma is 5 euros and takes about 30 minutes to get to Marco Polo Airport. The bus deposits you at the arrivals area and you have to go upstairs to departures.

The Alilaguna costs about 12 euros and you have a loooonnnnngggg walk from the boat launch to the entrance to Marco Polo.

We took the Orange Line to San Stae stop and
it took about 45 minutes.

You could take Vaparetto #1 Accademia to Piazalle Roma. I think the combo is 15 euros.

No.1 stops makes every stop thus slower than No2. Water Bus - Land Bus combo is €12 according to ACTV ( vaporetto - landbus company )

My mistake. I wrote less that half the cost of alilaguna but that's for landbus only ( €6 ). I forgot to count vaporetto ticket as I took it with my 7-day pass that was still valiad when I was leaving Venice. Bus - Vap combo ticket is €12.

Alilaguna landstage to Airport is 5 minutes (close to 10 if you are slow or with lots of luggage) longish walk, some may feel but everybody does so doable. The walkaway is well made, mostly covered. This is what I remember from what I did 7 years ago, one of the rare times I flew to Venice instead of train. Hope things has not changed much.
