Alilaguna - how punctual?

My husband and I flying from Venice to London at 7:50 am. Since it is an international flight we need to be at Marco Polo airport two hours prior - 5:50.

Based on Alilaguna timetable, first ferry leaves S. Marco at 4:35 and arrives at the airport at 6:00.

Two questions:

1. Do they actually leave S. Marco on time?
2. We flying out Sunday - do they have the same schedule on weekend?

Beth

Hi Beth! They left right on time when I used them. Sorry, can't help you with the schedule.

Buon viaggio!

Hello Beth,

The Alilaguna timetable I have lists departure time from S. Marco at 04.50 (not 04.35).

The timetable appears to be the same for Sundays, but you'd need to confirm this.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

On the flip side!!!, we are arriving Venice airport at 11:30 AM on a Tuesday in May, and need to catch a 3:30 PM train at the Venice station. We want to ride the Alilaguna from the airport to the train. How often does the Alilaguna boat leave the airport, and how long does it take to get to the train station? Someone said it leaves the airport, stops at Lido Island, and ends at San Marco. From there we must transfer boats (with all our baggage) to the train station vis the Grand Canal.

The Alilaguna boat timetables are listed at
http://www.venicelink.net/ali/orario.asp

The first departing time from San Marco is indeed at 4:50am. In case you´re staying in Dorsoduro, your hotel may be closer to the Zattere landing stage, from where the first boat leaves at 4:35am before reaching San Marco.

In the time frame you´ll arrive, Ronnie, you should be able to either take the 12:10pm red line boat (arriving at 1:20pm), or the blue line 12:40pm boat (arriving at 1:46pm). Either way you´d have plenty of time to reach S. Lucia station in time. I´d take vaporetto #1, which runs every 10 minutes, takes 38 minutes to reach the train station and enables you to have a better view of Canal Grande.

In case your flight is very late, the last boat you may catch is the blue line departing at 1:40pm (otherwise you´d have to take a bus, taxi or water taxi). In principle, you could step off at S. Zaccaria (2:42pm) and catch vaporetto #52 at 2:46pm, arriving at 3:10pm. It would be safer, though, to step off at Fondamenta Nuove (2:18pm) and take vaporetto #51 (2:24pm), arriving at 2:44pm.
