Rome to Capri/Positano

My soon-to-be husband and I will be honeymooning in Italy the last week of September and first week of October. Our plan is to fly into Rome and visit Capri and Positano.

My question: Should we head straight down to Capri when we first arrive in Rome that morning or would it make more sense to stay one night in Rome and then head down to Capri the following day?

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

We have done a trip like this several times and I always like to stay several days in Rome. I like Rome and even having been there before there several favorite places and resturants I like to go to. Also after the overnite flight I like to start out slowly to get my body adjusted to the time change and making the trip down to Positano or Capri is taxing to me. Sounds like you have plenty of time so it seems to me a few nites in Rome would be a pleasant start to the trip.

Hi moon,

I take it you will be there for two weeks.

Will you be coming back to Rome?

Where else will you be going?

Hi Ira -- Yes, flying in and out of Rome. Just Rome, Capri (2 nights) and Positano (with day trips from Positano).

Congrats! We did a similar honeymoon last May- you will love it.

We also flew in and out of Rome. We spent 2 nights in Rome, 4 nights in Capri/Positano, and then back to Rome for another 2. This was ideal for us. It gave us a chance to acclimate ourselves to being in Italy without having to figure out train/ferries/hydrafoils right away. The first day there, it was just sensory overload- I can't imagine trying to get myself down to Capri/Positano just after arriving there. I would stay at least the first night in Rome.

Have a wonderful time!

Hi moon,

Will this be just one week?

If so, you could follow Jane's itinerary.

We found it not at all difficult to continue on from Rome. You're operating on adrenalin whether you stay in Rome or go on to Naples and on to Capri.

When you clear customs at FCO, just follow the crowds and the signs to the Leonardo da Vinci Express to Roma TE.

You can buy all of your tickets when you get your ticket to Rome.

You arrive in Rome on track 22 or 24. Walk in the same direction that the train was going to the head of the tracks. There is a large bulletin board listing which track your train will exit from.

There is a nice restaurant at the train station.

It took us 3 1/2 hr from the time our plane was scheduled to land to get to Rome TE.

Enjoy your trip.
