Alhambra Guide - needed or not?s

Tickets for Alhambra now open, and I can get JUST the tickets for 49 Euros OR pay for a guided tour 260 Euros ( tickets included) , or semi-private tour ( max 10 people) for 300 euros. Is a guided tour truly required? We will be driving from Malaga to Granda for the day, and thinking of getting the 10am slot but wanted to check your thoughts before I bough the tickets. This is for the Easter week so I know I need to get the tickets soon.

Thank you for your advice,

D

I didn't have a guide. I didn't feel I needed one. Do try to do the evening visit as well as the day one.

Get a good guide book and read for yourself.

We didn't use a guide, just bought guidebooks and read them thoroughly in advance and brought them with us.

The Alhambra is gorgeous, it is nice to just be able to linger where you want to...we did not have a guide, but it is really good to research yourself, otherwise the rooms could all look the same after awhile.

Another voice saying no guide is needed. And another strong suggestion to get tickets for both the day and evening visits.

New audio guide is now available, which some say is very good and a big improvement on previous offering. 6 euro with a credit card as deposit.
