Well be in Seville for 4 days in Early May & would like to know if it's necessary to get tickets ahead of time. I'm sure there are long lines, right? Would getting tickets ahead of time help me avoid the lines? My only issue is I don't like to lock into a particular day. Any help out there? Thanks, Lin

In 2015, we arrived 15 minutes before it opened at 9:30. There was a line, but it moved quickly when it opened, and we got inside within a few minutes.

I have never gotten tickets in advance to go there, and I've been twice. I don't remember any major wait problem, and I have been in popular seasons.

We encountered long lines a couple of weeks ago but had advance tickets and walked right in. We wanted to see the royal residence and because they only allow so many people in at a time, we opted to get advance tickets.

My husband and I visited Seville in September a few years ago. We first tried visiting the Alcazar in the afternoon and the lines were shockingly long; there was no way we were going to get in before it closed. We returned the next morning and had to wait only about 20 minutes. It was my second visit, the first being many years ago.

Thank you for all your replies. I particularly found Travels with Mai Tai Tom helpful & amusing. Beautiful photos too. By the way. I'm hoping our timing is good. We arrive into Seville late on May 7 & stay till the 11th. We'll do what we can. We are an older couple. Endurance is not our strong suit. Our plan is to orient ourselves the first day with a walk & possibly the HOHO bus (although we're not too sure about that). We usually use our first day in a city this way, but not sure if that bus is such a good idea in Seville. Any suggestions? Alcazar & Cathedral on the list. Eating, people watching from a park bench & I hope, a Flamenco performance. We'd like to do an earlier show if we can. I know things are usually later in evening, but read that some places have earlier performances scheduled. Any ideas out there? I know I'm asking a lot, but with only 3 full days, we want to plan it wisely, but without exhausting ourselves because it's the start of our trip, & we'll have 10 more days in Spain (including) a short hop into Portugal. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

We were in Sevilla in June 2014. Enjoyed the HOHO bus for getting our bearings but the commentary was almost inaudible! No queue for the Alcazar but the Royal Apartments were closed because of a visit. Don'e miss it. The cathedral is a must but check opening times. We also enjoyed the Museum of Fine Arts and the Casa de Pilatos. Casa de la Memoria have flamenco shows at 18.00 and 19.30 so you can go early.

Seville is a wonderful city and easy enough to navigate. There are virtually no hills so you might fine getting around easier than you would think. Just stay hydrated! And drink sherry!

The Museo del Baile Flamenco has earlier shows at 5:30 and 7. The one at 7 is in a smaller room and is quite intimate. I'd recommend reserving ahead as they do sell out.

Also, you can avoid standing in a long line for the Cathedral by buying a combo ticket at the Iglesia del Salvador. It's worth seeing as well.

You're wise to conserve your energy early in your trip. We just got back from a two week triip to Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Madrid. We walked approximately 153 miles over 13 days. Our longest days were in Seville. It's a very walkable city but the top sites are somewhat spread out. In retrospect, I wished we'd made use of public transportation and taxis.

Taking a taxi to Plaza de Espana might be a good first day activity, or taking a horse-drawn carriage from the Cathedral area to the Plaza. You can adjust the walking/sitting ratio to your personal preference both there and at Maria Luisa Park next door. Casa de Pilatos as mentioned earlier is also a good amuse bouche for the Alcazar.
