Alberobello, Puglia, Italy
I misplaced this message first in the US-forum...

Is it 'trulli' worth staying in a trulli hotel in Alberobello, Puglia?

Thanks for the answers.

I was in Puglia this past fall.
IMO, it is good to stay at a Masseria (farm estate) in the countryside and travel into the town of Alberobello to visit the Trulli, which are clustered in a defined section of the larger town. T

I agree with bellastarr. We also visited Puglia last May and did not stay in a trulli. We stayed in several wonderful masserias and B&B's and visited Alberobello on a day trip. It was interesting, unique but very touristy.

I should add that the reason for my opinion is that I believe that the Trulli are fascinating to see from the outside, but would seem limited as a sleeping experience, whereas the masserie in that area offer a fantastic sense of the region and the life there.

Thanks for the replies. It is quite what I thought. It is more the outside and the cluster effect which makes it worthwhile.

Bellastarr: any masseria info? Where did you stay.
Flame 123: I read your excellent Puglia-trip report. Thks a lot.

Hi, baldrick -

I'm glad I saw the trulli, but have no regrets about not staying in one. If you want to see the inside of one, you can visit the Trullo Sovrano, which is unusually large and also unusual in that it has a 2nd story.

Depending on your other plans, you might want to devote only a few hours to Alberobello. It is interesting, but as others said, it is small and touristy.

Hope that helps!

try this one near Ostuni-
the family is marvelous and if you stay there do not (and I mean DO NOT) miss their reserved dinner. I wonder if I can say it is one of the best meals I have ever had? Yes, I think I can say that!
I have also completed a series of paintings based on the olive groves there, and my experience was fantastic.
BTW, I've been too lazy (and too busy) to write a report, but you'll find a good review of it on the SLOWTRAV site.
It is in a good location to explore the area also, and not far from beaches.
