Albergo Metropole in Bellagio?
Hi all,
With only 5 weeks to go, I've seen some pretty dismal comments on TripAdvisor about the hotel that I selected in Bellagio (Albergo Metropole). The most recent comments on this board are from several months ago. Has anyone stayed there within the last year? If so, what were your impressions? (by the way, depending on what I hear back, my 2nd option is a non-lakeview room at the du Lac). Thanks - Dana |
Are you absolutely determined to stay in Bellagio or would a lake-view room over in Varenna or Menaggio do as well?

dana_g,
Like you I booked the Metropole only to find some pretty negative reviews being posted shortly afterwards on TripAdvisor. I don't think there is any doubt that most people seem to favour the Du Lac over the Metropole. For my purposes, however, both the Metropole's price (we'll be on a tight budget)& the location (I know that my wife will love the lake-front view) were right & so I decided to go ahead with the booking. We will be there this Friday (April 1st) for two nights followed by a night in Bergamo & I will post a trip report as soon as possible after I return, so keep your eyes peeled! Jim |
Thanks to you both - We really do want to stay in Bellagio (although we initially looked in Varenna).
Definitely looking forward to your trip report, Jim! |
For Bellagio on a limited budget, I'd suggest you look into Residence La Limonera.
www.residencelalimonera.com Located in the middle of Bellagio (although not on the lake shore), nice views, very reasonable rates and comfortable accommodations. |
dana_g,
Just got back yesterday & haven't had time to do a trip report yet but thought I'd give you a quick update on the Metropole. We had booked a front lake view room & on arrival we upgraded to a room with a private terrace for an extra 20 euro per night. The terrace was huge & I doubt if anyone in town could have had a better view than we did. The room itself was pretty spacious & looked very much as it does on the website. The bathroom was also a good size & looked to me as if it had just been redecorated. I think the carpet in the room may also have been new. The public areas of the hotel were maybe a little faded looking, but I would have no hesitation in recommending it, especially if you can get a room with a terrace (we were in room 110). I will try to make a start on my trip report this weekend but will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the meantime. Jim |
Thanks for your preliminary comments. Now tell us what rate you paid.

Jean,
The original quote when I booked was 219.60 euro for the two nights (no idea why the odd cents) so with the 20 euro per night upgrade for the terrace I ended up paying 259.60 - call it 130 euro per night. This would be a low season rate of course - I don't know what the going rate will be once things get into full swing. Jim |
Thanks so much for the update Jim! Sorry for my delay, I've been (haha) out of town. I'm so encouraged by what you said...we are lucky enough to have lake front rooms w/ balcony. So, I'll be hopeful! Dana
