Aix en Provence: Pigonnet or...

I am thinking about staying at the Hotel Le Pigonnet as I prefer to be within walking distance of the town center. Seen many raves about the Villa Gallaci, but it looks like this property is up in the hills and would require a drive to town. I only have three nights. Anyone stayed at the Pigonnet or have a relevant opinion here? Many thanks in advance.

Type it into the search engine. It has very good reviews.

Villa Gallaci is not a long walk. We stayed at La Manoir in town and walked there to dine nearby at the "Clos de Violette."

P..S. The pigonnet is not in town.

Both hotels require a walk, and, in fact, I believe the Villa Gallici is actually closer.

Out the hotel gate, down a short hill, turn right one block past Clos Violette (restaurant where one should have a meal), then a left turn and down hill and you're already in Old Town. From there choose your direction.

Yes, it is a few blocks further to the Cours, where lots of restaurants located, but everywhere in between there is plenty to see/visit.

Both hotels are lovely and each has their own parking (at no extra charge), so we selected the Villa Gallici and had an absolutely large beautifully decorate room. They do have a pool if weather is warm enough for swimming. It's just a little piece of heaven.

As since you know it is in the northern hills, at least when entering Aix just follow the road on the right on and on till you eventually see sign for the VG. You'll see every other hotel sign and wonder where the VG is located, but keep going and when you see the sign, make a left turn a few feet, then turn right up the hill to the gate. You'll be pleased.

Finally, a question I can answer with expertise! (I live right next door to Le Pigonnet!)

Both hotels are in town. I think cigalechanta was thinking of Centre Ville when she said Le Pigonnet was not in town. Neither hotel is in Centre Ville but I don't know of any four star hotels that are.

I walk regularly from Le Pigonnet and am at Les Deux Garcons in 10 minutes (and I'm too lazy to "power-walk" so that's an easy 10 minutes) I believe that Le Pigonnet is closer to La Rotunde and the Cours Mirabeau area, but you can easily walk from either location.
