Aix en Provence or Avignon?
 

Off a cruise at Marseilles for 1 day - Which will be nicer to visit - Aix en Provence or Avignon ?

I like Aix much more than Avignon. It's probably closer too, allowing more time for your visit.

Another vote for Aix.

I can't honestly compare for you, as I have not been to Avignon. However, on our recent cruise, we went to Aix from Marseilles. I absolutely loved it, so much that I want to return. You can just feel the spirit of artists who have lived and worked there in the past.

I vote for Aix. I was very disappointed with Avignon because it was dirty and a lot of graffiti however, we met the nicest people in Avignon. I did not like Marseilles.

I'd probably go with Aix, also, since you haven't been to either. I think it is closer, so that tips things in its favor. I like both cities, myself, and actually think Avignon has some things more of interest (at least to me). Make it easy on yourself.
