Airport Transportation: CDG --> Normandy
 

My college-aged daughter will be travelling alone, arriving in Paris (CDG) early on the morning of September 5, and needs transportation to Rouen. I have reviewed the posts here, and believe that the train would be cheapest but also somewhat complicated and difficult with multiple pieces of baggage. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance...

Most connections are RER B to Paris Nord followed by the train from Paris St. Lazare to Rouen Rive Droit.

Unfortunately, there is no simple way to get to Rouen from CDG, except for the way Ira outlined. He said to "pack light", but I'm assuming, perhaps mistakenly, that she's going for a semester or year of study? Taking the RER and then the train would not be easy with lots of luggage.

I would not recommend the RER B to E connection at Gare du Nord with many bags, as it requires somewhat of a hike up to the Magenta station :(

The #43 city bus goes door-to-door from Gare du Nord to Gare St-Lazare, but is probably not a viable option if your daughter has more baggage than she can carry with two hands and two shoulders. Buses have room for luggage, but can be crowded until about 9h30 :?

"Semester-sized" cabs can be found at Gare du Nord. They are piloted by friendly creatures who give special consideration to college-aged daughters ;)

Taxi from CDG to Gare St. Lazare. Economy is important but if she can't carry her luggage, take a cab.

I agree that if she really has to take all that baggage for some reason, I'd just cough up the money and have her take a taxi to the train station. Or, have her take a group shuttle van, if they will accept that much luggage. For one person, that will be cheaper than a taxi, I think they are around 25 euro for one, and I don't see why they wouldn't drop someone at a train station as well as a hotel.

Is your daughter going to school in Rouen? Mine has spent two years at university in France each year going with less and less Her first year she started out with 4 very large suitcases and now is down to one! Would love to help you help your daughter pack light with suggestions from our experiences

Thanks for the advice. I think I will suggest that she take a shuttle to Paris St. Lazare and then take the train.

MomKJC - Yes, she is going to IFI in Rouen, & staying witha family there. I would appreciate any packing advice - not sure how to contact you directly on this forum....

But there are things that she took the first time that we thought would be so important that just weren't. Like a hair dryer-best to buy when you arrive.
