Airport transfer to Hotel in Rome
Three of us are going to Rome in mid May. We have 1 free day before joining a 16 days Country road of Italy tour with Insight. Could someone suggest what's the best way from the airport to our hotel near Bascillica Santa Maria. Also what/where to look around for a day. Thanks

I think the "safest" way to your hotel from the airport is by pre-booking a transfer. And by safe I mean just "no rip-offs" by Rome taxi drivers. I have been burned too many times and I no longer trust them, although I am SURE there are many that are honest and decent. I just have not found them.
I highly recommend RomeCabs at www.romecabs.com. Many on this board have used them and will also recommend. As for what/where to look around for a day in Rome, it would depend on the following : 1) have you been there before? 2) what are your interests? 3) what is your budget |
Here's another vote for Rome Cabs. Used them for our transfers to and from the airport and were more than pleased.

Thank you guys for your advice.

What hotel? Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore (if that is the Santa Maria your hotel is near - there are lots of Santa Maria's in Rome) is just a few blocks from the main train station in Rome (Termini) which you could easily walk. You can take the Leonardo Express train from the airport to Termini (11€ - leaves every 30 minutes) or the Sit Bus Shuttle (also from the airport to Termini - 8€).
http://www.sitbusshuttle.it/ Most limo transfers are in the 40-50€ range for three people because taxis are a set fee of 40€ including luggage from the airport (has to be an official Rome taxi). http://www.adr.it/portal/portal/adr/...vo_in_taxi_FCO http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/FiumicinoE.htm |
