Airport to B&B in London
We will be going to London for our first time at the end of July. We are flying into Sanstead. Approximately how much will it cost to take a taxi into the south part of London? I guess we are looking for an easy way to get to our B&B and not drag our luggage on a bus or through the tube.

Don't take any notice of AR - of course taxis will go "south of the river" - some cabbies even live there!
You need to look at a map and see where your B& B is in relation to mainline stations, and then see if you can get a train there from Charing cross/Victoria/Waterloo, and then get the tube from Liverpool street to your chosen departure station. Alternatively, choose a B& B which is easily accessible by public transport!

It is important to know exactly where in South London you're talking about, because different sorts of transport to there connect to different sorts of transport from Stansted at different points; so the point at which it might be economical to use a taxi to complete your journey (if at all necessary) is hard to determine.
For example, some parts of South London might be better reached from Liverpool St (train or bus from Stansted, bus or taxi from there) or from Victoria (bus from Stansted, train, bus or taxi from there) - or maybe even from Stratford (bus from Stansted, Jubilee Line underground from Stratford to London Bridge/Waterloo for suburban train services).

Thanks for the insight. Our B&B is a very short walk from Victoria Station. Also...my husband and I will each have 1 suitcase and a carry on. I'm assuming that we will be able to navigate the tube with our luggage. They are not big suitcases.

In that case, I would very much recommend you use National Express Bus (www.nationalexpress.com) which leave every 20 minutes or so from the airport and takes 1hr 40mins to get to Victoria coach station (just up the road from the railway station) at a cost of around £16 return per person.

Tube isn't going to be an issue, since you can get a bus all the way from Stansted to Victoria Coach Station (a few hundred yards away from the railway station). You can use www.streetmap.co.uk or www.multimap.com or www.yell.com to find your B&B and the Coach Station.

The Terravision bus from Stansted is slightly cheaper than the National Express coach

Everyone has been so helpful...we appreciate this alot. It looks like the terravision might be the way to go. When I looked it up on the airport sight it said it goes to London Victoria, so is this Victoria Station? I'm assuming so but just want to make sure.

letsgotraveln: The reason your thread started off in sort of the wrong direction is because you said your B&B was in south London. Victoria isn't "south" London. In fact is it almost smack dab in the middle.
You won't have any trouble getting there from Stansted. The direct coach if you want to save money, The train and the tube (or train/cab) if you want to save time. In no case do you want a cab all the way from Stansted.

hit post too soon -- the coach will take you to Victoria COACH Station which is about 2 blocks from Victoria train/tube station.
What street is your B&B on? Usually when they say a short walk from Victoria station they mean the train/tube station. To tell you how far the B&B is from the coach station we need to know its address.

Tearrvision go to Victoria Bus Station, National Express to Victoria Coach Station & trains go to Victoria Station.
But as they are within a couple of hundred yards of each other it isn't a problem just as long as you know which one you are supposed to be at

Victoria Station is just below "Green Park" and the different bus/cpach stations are just below that
