airport taxi to Palermo hotel

Does anyone know how to get an affordable taxi from the Palermo airport to the Villa Igea? I'm quoted $99 EACH direction.

It should not cost more than 40 Euros.

I'm not sure you can get a reliable taxi for much less.

According to the Palermo airport Web site, the average cost, during the day, of a taxi from the airport to the centre of Palermo (bear in mind that it is about 30 km) should cost 65,000 lire or 33.56 Euro or roughly US $ 44. However, it is obvious that this information has not been updated in a long time, since it derives the Euro cost from the official rate of exchange at the time the Euro was introduced.

In my experience, prices have by and large doubled in Italy since the Euro was introduced. Which brings you to US $ 88. Add the Villa Igea's cut to that, and you arrive at about US $ 99.

If you would like to have the Villa Igea's "guarantee," you should go with what it is offering. If you want to take your chances with a Palermitan taxi driver, pick up a taxi on arrival.

There is a bus service into downtown Palermo, which would reduce your costs considerably. You would still have to take a taxi from the closest drop-off point to the Villa Igea.

I was unable to find any information on line about a limousine or shuttle service.

I would not pay $99 to reach Villa Igea from the Palermo airport! You can take the airporter bus to Piazza Castelnuovo (45 minutes) for 4.70 Euros, then a taxi to the Villa (10 minutes) for about 15 Euros.

I don't know about transport FROM the airport, but we used them to pick us up at our hotel and take us TO the airport. It was only 28 Euro (in October 2003)

I'm curious to know if they'll quote you a better price than 99 Euro. Yikes! That's more than $130 U.S.
