In my case my mode of transportation into the city has to do with how much luggage I have. Did the RER to Gare du Nord with a large suitcase and a carry-on. It was fine until the change at Gare du Nord to the metro. I will never do that again. The Airfrance bus is good if it is going near your final destination. They load the luggage into the bottom of the bus for you. On Roissy bus you are stuck with your luggage on a city bus. So If I have more than carry-on I'm in a cab or on a shuttle.

I live very close to Gare du Nord, and I myself have taken a taxi from CDG more than once when I felt that lugging my stuff a few hundred meters more was something I just didn't want to do -- but I should point out that this was always returning home after a major shopping trip. When I first arrive anywhere, no matter what country, my luggage is minimal and generally weighs less than 10 kg. (Note: I often buy clothes when traveling, so I do not fly with my full wardrobe, unlike many people.)

Suzanne2: I was just watching TV and there's a new shuttle service here in L.A. www.shuttle2lax.com. They only charge a flat rate of $20.00 to or from LAX and cover a huge area of L.A. County. Thought I'd post the info to you. Happy Travels!
