Airport/Pier transfer for group of 10
 

The boards helped me get a group airport transfer in Paris, so I'm asking for help again. This time in Athens. We started with 4 people and are now up to 10. We are taking advantage of a fabulous price for 10 days in Greece from Gate 1 (not a tour). They offer transfers, but I think we can find something for less money. Can anyone recommend a company we could use to get us from the airport to hotel, hotel to pier, etc. We are traveling in October and I know it's the end of the season for the islands but we couldn't pass up the deal. I emailed the famous George the Taxi driver, but got no response. I know we could take 2 or 3 taxis, but for this group, I think they would like to see someone holding a sign with our name. I just did a trial booking on this website. Begin at the bottom of the page below the photos. I found a van that carries 12 passengers. Booking for a date in October the rate was €188 from the airport to Syntagma Square in Central Athens. This was only for Airport>Hotel. You can ask them about rates from Athens to Piraeus, where your ship departs.

For the sake of comparison, the Airport Express Bus will bring you to Syntagma Square for €3.2 per person. The Metro will cost €10 for 2 people. A taxi will cost around €35 for 4 people.

Thanks for your reply brotherleelove. I did finally hear from "George" and he has a very good price to transport my group so I think I will be booking with him. I know the bus and Metro is cheaper, but after an all night flight, I don't think I could keep my group herded through the workings of the Metro on their first day in Greece.

Public Transportation is cheap and very convenient at the airport of Athens. The bus runs every 15-20 minutes and it is outside the arrivals gates, very easy to access. It will transfer you to Syntagma Square, outside the metro station. Where is your hotel located?

What is the famous George the Taxi driver's email addy?
I need him from the airport to the Athengate Hotel and then from the Athensgate hotel to the pier in Piraeus...

Hi Andy,

There is a taxi rank just outside Arrivals at the airport, and any will charge much less than "George". Likewise, your hotel can arrange a taxi to the pier. Confirm the fare before getting into the taxi. I don't see any point in paying over the odds for a simple transfer from airport to hotel, or hotel to Piraeus - all you will gain is a man standing by the Arrivals exit holding a hand-written sign with your name on it - and you won't get there any quicker. :-)

Athens 10437 . I know it is close to Syntagma Square and the bus would be cheaper but I can see it now - "Ok everybody on the bus, Is that your suitcase?, Where is "mary", We got off at the wrong stop, now we have to walk two blocks, yada yada yada."

George is quoting a price of 130 euros for ten people in one vehicle, right to the hotel. Keeping the flock together is easier and "priceless."

No it isn't that close to Syntagma Square. Have you looked at a map. It's quite a hike.

Oops, sorry, 1.5 km. from the square according to their website. So that makes the private transfer even better. Hiking with suitcases is not something I want to do.

We are 6 people who actually need guided tours IN ATHENS as a few of us cannot walk long distances due to knee surgery.
I know this is the wrong time to hit Greece, but the cruise was just too good to pass up...

We are flying into Athens 2 days early to see the sights..

Hi Andy,

That was rfbk50 that gave you George's address. Keep in mind that George and his drivers aren't licensed tour guides, so can't accompany you into the sites and museums. If you want a guided tour tailored to your needs, perhaps Fantasy Travel or Dolphin Hellas would be the answer. :-)
