airport in bologna

as we are busily planning our trip for june/july 07 we have been tossing around what airport to fly in and out of. we first thought rome both ways, then rome in and venice out but now thinking more about bologna both ways. the airfare is about $100 each cheaper and it seems like a central location for all we want to do. any advice about the advisabilty of it? any pros or cons the this airport? thanx in advance!

On my last trip to Italy I flew into Florence and spent some time there, then headed via train to Bologna, then Parma and finally to Venice (flew home there). I would suggest you figure your itinerary so that you are not jumping north and then south and then north again. Make it a smooth flow. You can then determine what's the best value of getting around.

Hi R,

Since we don't know your itinerary, we can't help much. :)

Aside from the advisability of working north to south or south to north in Italy, Bologna's airport has the advantage of being small and only about 20 minutes away from the center by shuttle bus.

Don't forget to add in the cost of getting back to Bologna for your departure--it may quickly cancel out your $100 savings on airfare.
