I have a question for janis, or anyone else familiar with LHR. When we arrived into LHR, we saw signs for transport to T4 while we were still airside. At that time we didn't know of the problem with the Elizabeth Line, but that aside, could we have taken the bus to T4, and exited there?

You can only move terminals whilst airside if you are connecting to another flight out. If you are exiting the airport to stay in London you need to pass through immigration and customs in the terminal you arrive at. There is anyway no point in changing terminals airside as all the transport options are available at all terminals. If the Elizabeth line wasn’t working it would be down at all.
