Airport Hotel in Madrid
Hello all
Can anyone recommend an airport hotel in Madrid? Is there one where we can walk into the terminal? Thank you! |
Which Terminal and what time is your flight?
AFAIK there are no hotels IN the airport. There are a few within about a mile of Terminals 1,2 and 3 (which could be walkable but I probably wouldn't) but not close to terminal 4. Many hotels have airport shuttles but if your flight is early AM/late PM you'd have to contact the individual hotel to verify their shuttle operating hours. Or you could stay in the city and take a train. |
We are flying from Madrid to Mexico City in a couple of months. I did look at airport hotels but am not a fan at staying in or near airports so decided to book @ Sleep 'N Atocha which is on a direct rail link to MAD. It should take around 45 mins to transfer and is probably only a few mins over the shuttle transferee times and has access to all Madrid has to offer in terms of eating etc.

Thanks for the info. I will look into these options

We stayed at the Airport Hilton in 2018. You have to take a shuttle to the terminal, but we were happy with our choice.

Taxi from central Madrid to Barajas airport is usually maximum 30m minutes....why waste time at the airport?
My personal opinion would be to spend as much time in the city as possible, not waste time at an airport hotel. Someone who knows Madrid well can tell you where in the city you could get a hotel the would allow you to taxi to the airport in minimum time..my guess is up north, northern reaches pf Pasea de la Castellana...and some good places to eat near there and quick bus to center!!!!! If you are 100% against that, maybe a small town within easy reach of airport? For me, no matter what time my flight was leaving, I would stay in Madrid, have a nice meal or walk around, go to sleep early if you have to, and get taxi to airport....there is a flat rate from airport to center and probably vice versa...I think I paid 30 euro last March...to one from airport to Chamberi and return.. Taxis take credit cards and you are not expected to tip. |
I've done both, taking a taxi from a beautiful apartment in Madrid to the airport - set rate of 30 euro or so and a quick ride. Especially if your taxi driver is Mario Andretti as mine was. Also spent a night near the airport at the Hilton - quick shuttle ride to the airport. Only did this as we were fleeing before Spain locked down due to COVID.
I'd definitely stay somewhere in Madrid and take a cab, bus or metro. At an airport hotel you're captive - limited and more expensive food, etc. |
Late to post here, but the flat rate taxi fare to Barajas is now 33 euros.
We had a disappointing and expensive stay at the Madrid Hilton when arriving late at night from Lisbon and departing early the next morning from Barajas, plus an extremely unforgettable meal in their restaurant. I swore never again to stay at a Barajas area airport hotel, as there is zero around these airport hotels belonging to various chains of any interest (no there is not a hotel within the Barajas complex)and dining at them is a very poor value, ime. Others may have very different experiences. From a hotel in the northeastern corner of the upscale Salamanca district, a lively, atmospheric, attractive neighborhood, with plenty of good dining within walking distance, it is only a 15-minute taxi ride in the early morning hours to Terminal 4. Not on the Paseo de la Castellana but instead near the Avenida de América, which is on the direct route to Barajas airport. Hotels such as the VP Madroño, the Meliá Serrano, the AC Avenida de América or the Abba Madrid would be my choices for an easy and quick ride from a nice Madrid neighborhood to Barajas to avoid spending your last night in a sterile, uninteresting environment, but YMMV. Some feel that staying at an airport area hotel before an early morning flight is less stressful. |
Our last night in Spain routine has been to stay at the Axor Barajas or Feria.
