airport arrivals

Hi all,<BR> I was wondering if someone could tell me how early I should get to the airport for an international departure. I am flying JFK to Rome. I've heard anywhere from 2-3 hrs. Is this accurate? Thanks...

I have heard 3 hours for International but I would think that 2-3 is fine.

Flew out of Newark yesterday -- check in began 3 hours before the flight.

United recommends 3 hours for an international flight. You'll most likely be sitting at the gate for 2 of those hours but better safe than sorry. On Thanksgiving the security check line took 45 minutes at SFO.

I think it depends where and when. I left Philadelphia for Rome on Dec. 1, a Saturday. Took about 20 minutes at the ticket counter and 5 minutes at the metal detectors. I was there more than three hours before the flight and it probably got busier later.
