>order a special meal....it is not prepared on a production line from generic ingredients.<

Unfortunately, my dear Robe, they are.

I speak from experience. If anything, the kosher meal was slightly worse.

Hi suze and jody, I too like to leave the plane without leaving trash behind. And the only reason I thought of a ziploc bag for trash was because on my last flight the fellow next to me ate a banana and then an apple. All good food for sure.

But - smell of the banana peel and the apple core got a bit overwhelming. He had put them in a lunch size paper bag and then sort of stuffed it in the pocket in the back of the seat in front of him. So I though a ziploc bag would eliminate any odors that would be offensive during a flight.

Yes jody, we too (we were in HS) dressed up to take the Greyhound into SF. Wonderful memories!

You're right!!! Obviously it must be the 1st class cabin that I'm walking through to deplane, when I notice the cyclone hit.

I often wonder just how clean those people get the plane in the turnaround!Stinky banana peels are one thing , buton our the last flight I pulled out the magazine from the seat pocket and there was a kleenex filled with bloody sputum..God only knows what the headrests harbored! I am not O/C but I really don't want anyone elses germs at the START of my trip!

Jody, yuck and yuck! BTW I do not use airline head phones. For that very reason. Oh sigh, again, isn't flying wonderful!

I fly Air France and have been quite satisfied with their onboard meals. However, I am always afraid of having to hang out in the airport due to a delay of some sort so I always pack some dried fruit, nuts and a slim jim sausage stick with a stick of cheddar. All very convenient, filling and easily packable.

Sandwiches from deli, no mayo (who needs food poisoning) or salty meats (salt causes thirst causes water drinking causes trip to head), halves of sandwiches wrapped separately. Ready to eat cut up vegetables that don't squash and get leaky (carrots, peppers, cucumber, celery). An apple. A full large sized box of chocolate chip cookies (also serves to calm nearby screaming kids). Candy (ditto). Raisins. Plastic bags. Napkins. Bottled water, in 1/2 liter size, all but one bottle frozen overnight, to keep things cold and later to drink cold. Tiny tooth cleaning kit ripped off from first class when exiting previous flight. Individually packeted hand cleaning wipes.

I pack a lunch of a frozen juice box and a sandwich on top of that. You can do mayo, that isn't what will give you food poisoning. It is any food with high moisture and low acidity. Store bought mayo has vinegar in it. Doesn't spoil as readily as fresh mayo you made back in the day with an egg and some oil. You should refrigerate anything you carry, veggies, sandwiches. Especially if you got them from a deli. I am not the food police, but I am Food Safety Certified, and I make sure my stuff stays at the proper temp. With the juice box frozen, it keeps the sandwich okay. I eat that within an hour or two.

I also bring high in protien snacks and dry snacks that keep, like almonds, slim jims, and a trailmix of dried fruits and nuts. I keep that when I am sight seeing too, as my bloodsugar has been known to take a nose dive when I least expect it to. I like grain bars too. Everyone picks on me but when they want a nible they know who to ask.

One time my grandmother insisted that she make me lunch for the plane, she made me a peppers and eggs sandwhich. Oh my I thought I wouldn't get out of there alive, they all wanted to steal my sandwich!!! I had to fight them off while they ate nasty airplane food.
