airplane fun

After having read several posts from other travelers about the problems they have encountered on airplanes with individulas who bother them with conversation, when all they want is to be left alone, I decided to offer my solution which I have found works very well. When someone starts to bother you, stare, grinning at that person and announce, "I have new socks on." If that dosen't work, then lean very close to them and start sniffing.

Another way to deal with people is to wear a puppet on your hand and use it to talk to your fellow passengers.

Of course if you really want to have some fun, hold a briefcase in your lap and after a while crack it open and while peering inside ask, "Got enough air in there?"

That's hillarious. I'm flying on a packed plane in early March and may have to use that.

You could also put some chex mix in the seats and then halfway through the flight pull it out of the seats and say "yum yum who needs food service on flights?"

If you are coming from U.K., you could substitute Shreddies for the Chex Mix.

Just look at the person next to you and tell him/her that you cannot hear him for all the voices in your head!

pick your nose LOL

SeaUrchin Feb 12th, 2004 04:20 PM

That's funny, but it would be my luck that the person would say, hey, I have new socks on too! And proceed to talk about buying socks for three hours!

How about "does the noise in my head bother you", no, nevermind, they would probably say, "what? I can't hear you over the voices in MY head".

I had better stick to putting my nose in a book!

Seaurchin
Try putting a book in your nose.

Reply to everything- everyone says with " That's what you think!"

You made me laugh with that one. I could picture myself with the book!

One trip I tried to ignore the kid next to me until he tapped me on the arm and handed me one of those Game Boys and we dueled with the games for the rest of the trip.

Since I've never considered any of these tactics, does that make me the annoying person talking your ear off? :)

Ask chatterbox to land you some money...

ncgrrl Mar 22nd, 2004 10:37 AM

Ask the chatterbox what he/she paid for the ticket and then lowball it. "What? You paid $300? I only paid $37.99 for mine"

Practice your opera singing skills. Who knows, you could be the next star. Not into opera, try hip-hop.

I was once on a business flight and was in no mood to talk to anyone. The person next to me I was sure was going to be a gab box and when they started talking to me I simply pointed to my ears and mouthed the words " I am deaf, sorry ". They never spoke another word to me during the flight. :)

The best experience I ever had was on an overseas flight when a man and woman sitting in front of me in a bulk head row had a bit to much wine. She got upset with her husband, they argued, then she got out of her seat and gob smacked him right in the face. It nearly knocked him onto the floor. She then accidently poured wine on my leg and then dropped a wine bottle on my foot later in the flight.

It takes all kinds these days to make a flight interesting.

I forgot to add the experience my in laws had on a flight from Amsterdam to Singapore. Half way through the flight a gentleman stood up and announced he could no longer handle life, removed his clothes and ran for the emergency door. Fumbling to open it and half naked( note: emergency doors can NOT be opened during flight ) he was subdued, put in restraints, dragged to the back of the plane, drugged and slept the rest of the flight.

The chatter boxes I can take, the wackos I cant handle. :) I prefer them to chat my ears off versus getting up and fist fighting or removing their clothes and heading for a door. Ya just have to look at the positive side of things.

Interestingly, I have asked numerous flight attendants what their biggest hassle is these days and their reply was " Drunks ".

Did I mention about the coast to coast flight I had where the first officer who got up to use the bathroom got locked out of the cockpit because of a malfunction with the new security door ?
I actually laughed over that one. The pilot didnt find it humorous though.

I love to fly ..........:)

Drugged? That's kind of scary. Who did the drugging?

There was a Physician on board this particular flight but I believe all long haul overseas flights have medical kits with drugs. The airlines have a hotline to a central emergency medical operation where a Doctor can give the medication details, dosages, etc. to a trained stewardess on what drugs to give, etc. The med's they have onboard are very limited I believe. This kit is not so much for unruly patients but more for medical emergencies.

Imagine being half way through a flight from LA to Sydney and begin having chest pains. A diversion by the pilot at this moment of time would put the passenger hours away from any airport and subsequent medical help.
Actually I believe that some large carriers on overseas flights also have heart monitors and/or portable defribrillators.

I will have to check again with one of my buddies who is an airline pilot to find out for sure.
