Which would you choose for a nonstop flight between London and San Francisco? Virgin is the cheapest, followed by Singapore.

I think you can't go wrong with either one...but Singapore Air is the second cheapest??? I would think BA would be competitive to Virgin. Good Luck!

Well if you type in airline reviews on your google or yahoo search you will find forums devoted to reviewing airlines, and seatguru.com will actually list which seats on which planes are good and bad. I seem to think Singapore is superior in service,( only from reviews I have read) so I think I would choose them.
I have flown BA and found it " ordinary" .

If you think you'll be travelling more after this trip, I advise you pick a carrier and join their loyalty program, then apply for a credit card that earns you miles in that same program. Pay attention to the alliance the airline belongs to and their partners in the alliance. A big advantage with the BA program is that you can use 25,000 miles to upgrade to Business class. Economy class is economy class, no matter which of the three you fly, bearable for a 10-hour flight, but just barely. But BA has lie-flat beds in Business, which makes a huge difference.

I'd check to see if the SQ flight to SFO will be operated by VS, since they codeshare on some routes.

Odin--You're right. Virgin and Singapore look like a code share. That takes care of one decision.

I have lots of miles on United. However, after another horrible experience last summer flying on United to Rome, I said that I wouldn't use them again for a flight to Europe....

I also have miles on Continental, which seems to have a code share with Virgin also. And miles on American....

We have flown Singapore first class which was great. We could not get the Virgin from SF to London.. should have booked many months ago.. We are using miles.Starwood points and cash!! So we are doing Virgin First class from Chicago.. It looks great! ah I dreaM of that SFO to London flight... :(

United is a Staralliance member as well as Singapore Airlines. So why not using your UA miles for a direct SQ flight.
SQ is quoted one of the best airlines many years in a row already. I used them in all 3 classes and even in Economy they were outstanding.

Well, it's complicated because we want to fly to Amsterdam first, and we are trying to fly nonstop in both directions. So that means combining airlines. It looks like there also is not a way to fly Singapore from LHR to SFO. It's a Virgin flight.

I have flown a variety of airlines to Europe and do not find UA to be any better or worse than any other US airline. Connections and timing are usually more important. Being Premier on UA helps a lot with easier check in and more room with seating. I would say however, that most foreign airlines are nicer than most US airlines. One problem with BA is that they do not give points for transatlantic fares in economy if you are an American airlines FF. If you are flying SFO to LHR and AMS to SFO you have a lot of direct choices to LHR but only one airline flys AMS to SFO directly which is KLM.

I've not been impressed, even with Business Class, on British Air. Heard great things about Singapore - and with Virgin to a lesser extent.
