Airlines to Sicily from Venice and back to Rome--Recommendations or ones to reject???

Please help for our 1st trip to Sicily in October. Does anyone have cheap airlines within Italy they love or hate?? We leave from Venice to either Palermo or Catania and back to Rome from either city. Which airlines to rely on that are reasonable is the question. I hate to wait too long. We would like to leave from Venice on Thurs Oct 8 and return to Rome on Sunday Oct. 29.
We would like to stay in about 4 places and rent a car for two weeks, so any other ideas you would like to share will help us.
Thanks so much

I've had reasonably good experiences with the discount airlines WindJet and Air One between Sicily and Rome. Of eight flights, only two were seriously delayed (an hour or more); the rest were on time or only a few minutes late.

I've never flown between Sicily and Venice, but you will find the discount airlines at the Web site www.whichbudget.com mentioned above.

We usually use Air One. Good service and fares: http://www.flyairone.it/en/

Whichever airline you choose, have your hotel or a travel agency reconfirm your departure time 24 hours in advance. Flights to Sicily in particular are subject to rescheduling.

You can also check flights by going to www.skyscanner.net and cheaper flights on any non-budget airlines by using www.opodo.com and pick the UK site.

Thanks to all for your help and information. I think I should be taking care of this air fare soon for October. It's coming up fast. Does anyone have any reasonable favorite places to stay for a few nights in Palermo before we rent a car?
