Airlines cutting seat availability
There was a story this week that the airlines will be further cutting seat availability. I went to Continental and checked on my return flight in November and they had changed my departure time.
Now there is only 1 flight from CDG to NYC on Continental! I get cutting seat availability, but that seems like a big cut. |
Not sure where you're looking but I see three flights a day each direction when I look at the CO website.
|
I was notified by British Airways this week that my flight from LHR to CDG was cancelled and they moved us to a later flight the same day. I've taken this route many times and that's the first time this has happened.
|
I checked Continental's site when I saw the change and no other flights were coming up. I will have to look again.
I'm hoping they will let me change for free, since they changed the flight time on me. Last time that happened to me they allowed a free change. |
Take Air France. Just a few dollars difference, even less than some American airlines, and you are treated like a human being instead of cattle.
|
<I'm hoping they will let me change for free>
If they're doing the changes, yes it's free. There is no change fee. |
We had round trip flights from JFK to Stansted outside of London on American. The route was unilaterally cancelled by AA less than six months after the commenced the schedule. This caused us undue expenses in tarveling to Heathrow and staying a night in London.
|
The airlines are just more likely to combine partially filled flights than try to sell empty seats for less these days.
If you find a more convenient flight than the one automatically rebooked, you can call and change (no fee) if there's a seat available. Or, you can usually cancel with no penalty for a full refund, then book with another airline if you like. But, there's no guarantee that flight won't get cancelled or changed... |
I checked again and it seems that for August they still have 3 flights from CDG to NYC, but in November when I am flying, it's only the 1 flight.
Oh well, it's a pain, but it shouldn't make that big a difference to my trip. I just hate that I had everything coordinated with my travel partner and now it is a bit off. |
Don't know when in November you are looking, but fr the 18th they show two CDG-EWR fights - 777 at 0955 and the dread 757 at 1335.
There is also the possibility to fly CDG to IAH and connect to EWR, though that does make for a long ride. |
Thanks everyone! I called Continental today. There is only 1 flight because it's the Friday after Thanksgiving.
They changed me to an Air France flight that better fit my schedule and there was no change fee. Bridget |
