Airline tickets question
 
Well my friends, it seems like that today is my day to ask questions:
I was wondering what would happen if somebody stole my airline tickets? As a passenger, what are my rights ?
Can the airline refuse to honour the photocopies of the tickets?
So far I always been lucky in my travels and never had any problems of any kind.... but like the old saying :" Never say Never " it could happens..
Any suggestions on what to do, or anybody had that ugly experience happen to them?

Unless for some reason you can't, get e-tickets. Then there's nothing to lose. The day is fast approaching when you won't be able to get paper tickets anyway.

Years ago before e-tickets existed, I lost a domestic paper ticket and was required to purchase a new ticket and wait 90 days for a refund. The airline said they had to make sure my original ticket wasn't used somehow.

I agree with Brian 100%: don't take them if you can avoid it. On rare occasions, I've had situations where I had to take paper tix -- even within the past year. (Sometimes this happens when an itinerary involves more than one carrier.) If you lose track of them, you are liable to be in for the kind of hassle and waiting that he cites.

If someone stole airline tickets the thief wouldn't be able to use or sell them unless the new traveler has the same name as the victim/passenger. The fare of a refundable ticket would be credited back to the credit card used to purchase the ticket (no one pays cash). If you lose a paper ticket you're basically SOL however you may be able to file a "lost ticket application" for a $100-200 USD fee and have them reissued. If you try to check in at the airport with only a photo copy of your ticket but demand that it be honored, you will be laughed at and be told to fork over todays fare for the flight you need or kindly leave the premises. If you lose a paper ticket for a flight that electronics were available, the airline will probably only rub salt into your wound and admonish you for not taking an etkt when you had the chance. Most airlines have been imposing a $25-50 surcharge for paper tickets which are totally non-refundable, even if the airfare is. As a passenger your right is to have the airline take you from point A to point B after paying them the fare the airline has set for their service.

Thanks everyone,unfortunately I have the old fashioned paper tickets...It will cost me a fortune to buy 3 one way tickets from Paris to San Antonio..I will be extremely careful..
