Airline Tickets 24h Cancelation Policy?
As far as I'm aware, Continental and Delta have 24h courtesy cancelations for online bookings. Does AA? I can't find any info on AA's website.
I've used CO's and DL's cancelation policies before, but this was about a year ago. Has anything changed in the interim? Needless to say I'll call them too. Any other airlines have courtesy cancelations? Thanks! |
United has had a similar policy, at least to this point (could always be subject to change). I've used it a few times.
From the website: <b>Can I cancel a flight up to 24 hours after booking?</b> Yes. United allows customers who purchase tickets in the United States through United Reservations, airport ticket locations or united. com to refund their tickets within 24 hours of purchase without penalty. |
As of last June, Northwest had the same deal. I used it due to some confusion booking a ticket for my under-2 year old son. It's interesting how they charged my card immediately, but it took several weeks for the refund.

I think that I may have to hold onto a reservation for more than a day. What about business class tickets? I think that the full fare is fully cancelable but there's a charge for it (maybe $150 to $200?). Or maybe go for First Class? Is that fully refundable?
Thanks again. |
Continental used to have a 24-hour hold, but no more. Now, <b>if you sign in as a Onepass member when you book</b>, your ticket will still get process, but you can cancel and request a refund within 24 hours. Still, very cumbersome.
If you just want to hold a fare on Continental, <b>THE WAY TO DO IT</b> is to use the Pay With Cash option. It allows you to go to Western Union or an airport counter to pay until midnight next day. But during that time, you can always go back to finish the transaction with credit card. It's basically a hold feature. And you don't even have to be an Onepass member. |
Thanks. I'm not trying to hold a fare. I'm trying to hold a reservation. The thing is that I need to hold for a week or so, so more than 24h.
What are the fully refundable options? I don't mind charging a First Class ticket to my credit card if I know I can get my $ back. But I think that fully refundable coach is probably best option. Just throwing some other ideas out -- I know Amex has a dedicated Platinum card travel service. Are they able to help with this? I'm not a Platinum card holder, but I can ask people who are to help me with this if necessary. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who has that black Amex (not sure if that helps either). It's too complicated to explain this whole reservation issue and why I need to do this. Thanks again! |
On continental.com, you can use Advanced Search, which gives you the option to search for "Lowest Refunable Fare" as well as "Full Fare". Often, both will give you the same results.
But before you book, you should really <b>study</b> the fare rules to see if it's really 100% refundable. |
Thanks. I tried New York-FCO and the fare is over $4000. Code basis is Y9E.
GENERAL RULES TEXT CANCELLATIONS PER TICKET CHARGE USD 100.00/CAD 100.00 FOR LOST TICKET. Can this be E-ticketed? Or does a cancellation still incur $100 charge even if it's an E-ticket? I guess I should call CO also, but it's not that convenient right now. Thanks again! |
Same rules for BusinessFirst. Fare code is J1OE.
That ticket is over 10,000. Wow. Yes, I need to study the rules closely. :-) |
I'm sorry, but "warm, roasted nuts with your favorite beverage" is NOT worth $10,000!!!!

Thanks. I'm still trying to get by without booking anything yet. I did do some research for Delta last night. When I called they said B is refundable (and the website also gave me a B fare when I asked for refundable fares). Then when I called later, another agent insisted B was not refundable and I had to book Y. B was about $2500 and Y was $4000.
I didn't book anything in the end. Though most likely it's refundable, I don't want to be in a situation when I have to try to fight to get the $ back. So I'm thinking about other options. |
