Airline rules in Greece.
 

I will be in Greece and using domestic flights on Olympic airways and Aegean airways. Neither of their websites have any information about carry-on luggage or checked luggage.

And I can't find any information about security rules for check-in...like the number of carry-on bags or rules about liquids, etc.

I would appreciate any information about baggage rules for Olympic and Aegean. And also information about security rules...such as liquids and the number of carry-on bags allowed through security.

I can't speak for Olympic, but Aegean allows one small carry-on. Since Olympic also flies small planes to most of the islands, I would expect the limits to be about the same. If you have even a 20-inch wheeled suitcase, I doubt it will make the cut. I'm not sure about weight, but don't plan on being able to carry on anything more than 12 or 14 pounds.

Start this summer, only one carry-on will be allowed on any flight originating in Europe. The same liquid rules apply in Greece as in the rest of Europe ... nothing over 100 ml, and it must all fit in a single zip-top bag (basically, the same as the US).

For the last several years we have travelled to Europe with only carry-on luggage....a 21-inch rollaboard and a small backpack.

So it is interesting to me that we should anticipate checking our rollaboards once we are in Greece.

For Olympic, go to http://www.olympicairlines.com/, and click 'Passengers Info' in the menu on the left of the screen. Economy class weight limit for domestic flights is 15kg. Since the new carry-on rules are EU-wide, they will be the same for both airlines.

With Olympic, it really doesn't make much difference. If our experience was the norm, they'll probably forget to put all the luggage on the plane anyway.

NeoPatrick, you were very unlucky, then. In many years of flying Olympic I've never had a problem.

It appears we'll have to check our rollaboards when flying in Greece.

Do you know if moistened wipes....like for hand cleaning or face cleaning...are considered "liquids" and are restricted? (do they have to go in the little plastic baggie?)

The 15kg limit is the same for both Olympic and Aegean, but it is for checked luggage, not carry-on luggage. Aegean specifies its carry-on limits (up to 8 kg, 55cm length X 40cm height X 20cm wide), but I don't see where Olympic states its carry-on limits.

We are traveling from Dallas TX to Santorini all in one, multi-leg trip in June. When we leave Dallas we have to make sure our checked luggage doesn't exceed Aegean's limit even though American and British Airways have a higher limit.

What Kilgore97 states is true. That's why I suggested that Olympic be called to obtain current information about their carry-on restrictions.

Yes, Kilgore97 is correct that I was referring to checked luggage. Nowhere in the Olympic website can I find reference to a specific weight allowance for carry-on luggage. Since I, myself, have a domestic flight booked with Olympic, I was curious enough to call their London office for an answer. They told me carry-on luggage for economy class on domestic flights shouldn't exceed 7kg.

For peace of mind, recommend you do as brotherleelove suggests and contact the airline yourself. For what it's worth, I've been taking domestic flights with Olympic for years, and no one has ever weighed my carry-on luggage. With the new EU rules, security checkers will be concerned with the contents of your luggage and the overall dimensions of the bag. Just wanted to add that the reason I didn't try calling Olympic about their baggage rules is that every time I've called them I am on "hold" for at least 25 minutes...and then sometimes I get disconnected in the middle of the call. Very frustrating!

BTW, when I spoke to the representative in the London Olympic Airlines office, he seemed amused that I was even asking the question about carry-on weight limits. I don't remember his exact words, but they were to the effect "What would you be carrying in a bag that small which would be over the weight limit anyway?"

When I am travelling with all my camera equipment (dSLR, spare body, several lenses, etc) I could easily reach a 7-8kg weight limit, and I wouldn't want to put those valuable items in checked luggage. Otherwise, if your bag meets the dimensions in the new EU rules, and you're not carrying prohibited items, you are unlikely to have a problem.
