airline prices
I bought a BA ticket from San Francisco to Heathrow in Feb 2003 for $500 for travel in June 2003. Now I want to go to Heathrow in July 2005 and the ticket prices are around $900. Do you think the prices will come down in Feb or March? Or should I just buy the ticket now? Thanks.

I would wait. I just did an open search on travelocity.com for the month of February and came up with $292 R/T plus tax (less than $400 USD! on American). I then did a search for July and it was $702 R/T plus tax (around $800 USD on Virgin).

Thanks for both your responses. Yes, I've tried mobissimo. I'll be patient and try again in Feb. for my July flight. Just getting eager, I guess.

I don't know that I would expect that same 2003 fare, tho. Traffic has recovered since then, and there's no SARS or imminent Iraq War commencement to keep fares lower.

And don't just shut off your computer "until February" with the notion that a/the better fare will come along at a predictable time. Be prepared to check almost daily, and follow news on this forum, and others (flyertalk.com or the Cheap Flights forum of www.eurotrip.com for example)
And a lot depends on how picky you are (exact date, times, routing, airline, number of seats, for example). Sometimes, getting the very lowest fare isn't worth the savings if what you can find now is a very good match to your criteria; the cheaper thing might not be, so much. Best wishes, Rex |
Thanks Marty and Rex. Yes, I will keep trying. Two years ago a friend got a RT ticket for $112 from SFO to Milan. We thought it was a computer clitch but BA honored it. The funniest part is that they even upgraded her. She had a great trip. :>)
