Nice work. Dates?

Thonglori Feb 26th, 2004 04:53 AM

I just priced September for the hell of it and there are NYC-Rome tickets for $500 on Delta (Orbitz).

indytravel Feb 26th, 2004 04:58 AM

Dang grimmy beat me to it. :-D

Budman Feb 26th, 2004 05:32 AM

Thanks, grimmy, for the tip. I just went to orbitz and booked our flight to Rome from Newark on Delta (code share with Alitalia). Total cost for two round trip tickets, non-stop, including tax, fees, and shipping of paper tickets -- $897.37

Leaving 16 Sep
Returning 27 Sep

Before I booked, went to both Delta and Alitalia websites and their prices were between $650 to $800 per person per ticket. ((b))

Yippie!!! ((b))

Budman Feb 26th, 2004 05:55 AM

WOW, Delta is now offering that same flight for $43l.21. Go figure.

Cost me an extra $30+ :-[ ((b))

kismetchimera Feb 26th, 2004 06:30 AM

fantastic prices..But for me will be more expensive because I live in Texas.I will be happy to pay $700.00 from SAT to Rome..
Congratulation..

kismetchimera Feb 26th, 2004 06:36 AM

Just for curiousity I checked Delta for the ticket price from SAT to FCO, departing June 4th ,coming back June18...Could not believe , it was an astronomic price.$1,485 a person...YUCK..I dont even like Delta...Yuck..

Guess we are on the edge of the late Spring/early summer fare sales, and maybe some of the lower fares have been released. I've been looking for SAT-CDG and find tremendous variability, will bide my time for a few weeks and see what happens. My favorite airline, Continental, is still posting rather high fares.

grimmy Feb 26th, 2004 09:55 AM

Budman. Are you traveling on a weekend. That would account for the extra $30. I checked my dates (May17-June7) and its still $389 per ticket.

eurotravler Feb 26th, 2004 11:53 AM

Budman - I will be in Rome - Sep 19-24, How about starting a Fodor's GTG. I will supply the private terrace (http://www.realrome.com/propbologna.html) you supply the bud or.......a reasonable substitute.

Budman Feb 26th, 2004 06:19 PM

eurotravler - that's a wonderful idea, but we will be in Montepulciano from the 18th to 25th.

Come on up and I'll supply the wine.

grimmy, the $30+ extra was orbitz's $20 service fee + $15 to mail the paper tickets. By going thru orbitz it cost me an extra $35.00 for the two tickets.

I got burned once before by booking thru expedia and then finding that if I went straight thru the airlines, it would have cost me $25 less.

This time, before I hit the "purchase" button, I opened up another window to check out the airlines' prices. Alitalia was $800 per person, and Delta was around $650 per person, so I hit the "purchase" button.

An hour later Delta had the tickets at their website for $431.00 each. It's all water under the bridge, and I'm not going to whine over $35.00 because I still think I got a great deal. ((b))
