Airfare Wars?
As I patiently wait for the NY to Dublin/Shannon airfare to fall back to around $200 (+ taxes), I wonder if they're actually going to drop this year.

I remember a post-New Years drop in transatlantic fares the past few years. It seems that the best I can find now is about $350 (including tax) for travel between late February and spring time.

Does anyone know anything I don't about upcoming fare wars?

Thanks
Where did you find the $350 fare? I would be happy with that.

With jet fuel prices up about 17% during the last year it is unlikely that international fares will go low.But you never know.Anything can happen. You know what they say--snooze,you lose.IMHO,I'd book it now.

Check travelocity or orbitz for flights starting at $268 + taxes. Unfortunately, the cheapest tickets aren't non-stop, but change planes in Amsterdam or London. Continental and Aer Lingus have non-stops. Aer Lingus has the best fares, but available dates are very limited.

In 2001 I got what I thought was a cheap flight on SAS> Newark 12midnight to Copenhagen; 2 hour layover in Copenhagen (Kastrup is a great airport); then a flight on SAS to Dublin that offered a meal, even though it was short.Something to consider...

With taxes now running around $60-90, it is rather remarkable, that any company would offer fares that low (I realize that you are saying $200 before taxes - - but what other product or service is only three times the taxes associated with it?)

Still, it might be worth your while to follow the Aer Lingus site. they have had numerous seats and dates for $198 from Chicago to Ireland. And a few from Boston.

Don't know if they have any left now or not.

Make sure and check out the cheap flights forum of www.eurotrip.com also.

Best wishes,

Rex
Unwilling to take a chance, I ultimately booked on Continental for $342 (inc. tax). Given my usual luck, I predict airfare will begin dropping Monday.

thanks for your help.

If there is a price drop on Continental, they may be willing to give you a travel voucher for the difference. It isn't a rebate, but will allow you to use the voucher toward further travel. Watch and contact them if this occurs.
