Airfare to Scotland
Two of us are flying from US to Scotland in May. Trying to figure out the best time to get airfare in order to get a decent fare. Would like to fly directly into Glasgow or Edinburgh. We would be flying from the East Coast. Thanks!

You just missed this sale:
http://www.usairways.com/pro/specials/scotlandsale.htm Scotland On Sale - Travel Specials from $438 Roundtrip (NOT incl taxes/fees) -Tickets must be purchased by Monday, January 26, 2004 -Departures are valid between May 10, 2004 and May 30, 2004 -all travel must be completed by 6/29/04 Something may come along again in the next 1-5 weeks. Since this was a promo fare for the new route being opened by USAirways, it might not be this good. Or just try USAirways right now. Best wishes, Rex |
Its really hard to say...the rules that used to apply to airfare pricing are now pretty much out the window. I would just keep checking every day b/c you really have a lot of time before then-just my 2 cents.

I agree with Ani. Anything goes these days. I got a great price RT to Edinburgh for May-June back in November in the British Air. In the past, seven months would have been too early to get a deal.
BTW, do you realize that (as far as I know) the only nonstop flights to Edinburgh from the USA are on Continental from Newark? So it would kind of limit your options -- you'd have a better chance if you're willing to change, say in London or even in Amsterdam (on KLM/NW, not really that far out of the way). |
I found that if I flew Atlanta to Gatwick and then EasyJet to Edinburgh I could save a lot of money. EasyJet goes out of Gatwick so it should be an easy transfer. (I'm going in March.)

American currently has flights out of JFK to Glasgow via London Heathrow for under $500 for May.
