Airfare to London ?
I have been watching airfare prices to London from Salt Lake during the 3rd week of June, coming home the second week in July, for the last few months and have seen NO CHANGE, and it is about $300.00 more than last summer. Anyone think there is any hope for an airfare sale coming up in April ? Any other cities I should considering flying into ? Dublin had some bargains that I barley missed just recently....thank you for your thoughts.

We've bought tickets for August travel from LHR to SEA in 2010 and again in 2012. Tickets were cheapest in April. We have to fly the same route again, this July. We've been watching airfares and they are about the same as they were last March. We're hoping to see a little dip in the next few weeks. We really don't have any reason to expect they will, except that they have in the past. Airfare is really anyone's guess.

As per the recent thread below, be cautious on the carrier you use. There is a UK surcharge for BA that is outrageious, but Obama has exempted American airlines from this fee.

Following up on this thread. BKP, did you notice any changes in airfare? I saw about a $30 reduction in the airfare I'm following but didn't buy and now it's back up.
How about you, Moomer?
Our route is PDX-MRS and LHR-PDX. We're planning on taking Ryanair between MRS-LON. Pricing at $1304 right now. I'm nervous!

Nope, no change. We ended up biting the bullet at about $1400 on British Airways. We found them a tiny bit cheaper on other airlines, maybe $1350 or so, but we went with BA because of airmiles.
I still have my kayak alert and it doesn't seem to be going down.
Good luck!

I've been watching airfares for early September -- from the Midwest to Amsterdam and back from Frankfurt -- and they have not changed in several months (around $1300 -- about 300 more than two years ago).

Do you know how to clear the cookies on your computer?
Cookies allow the website to know who you are and what your previous interactions with the site have been.
If you clear your cookies, you will look like a new customer to the site instead of someone who has been looking for some time. You may get a different quote for the same thing. Or not. But it is always worth doing when you see the price drifting just a bit ever time you look. Their computer know youbwantbthat ticket and is like a fisherman setting the hook with little twitches.
The downside of clearing your cookies is that you will have to sign in again to all your sites that require a password,, but you ought to do it regularly anyway just for security purposes.

Hi,
I'm planning a trip UK to Boston in December 2013.
In the past I have found that European websites are often cheaper than US based ones. I have even noticed that Expedia.co.uk is often cheaper than Expedia.com. I recently posted a similar comment to another US user who replied, thanking me and saying she had saved money by booking on a German website.
The other thing I have done in the past is to book with a "foreign" airline. This basically means using a routing through a third country. Not always good in terms of time but on my last trip to Boston I saved about £200 (US$300) per person by routing UK, Paris, Boston rather than direct UK - Boston. The time penalty was lost at Boston as I was flying on to Maine and caught the same onward flight.
Hope that helps.

I will be flying from NYC to London (JFK-LHR)round trip in early May and I am paying more this year than I ever have. There were no deals to be found. I ended up paying $850 (inclusive of fees, taxes, etc.) for a direct flight. British Airways and Virgin were about the same price, so I went with BA. The only cheaper route would have been connecting in Iceland (Iceland Air), saving me a whopping $40, which isn't worth my time.

Mazey -- cheap flight; be happy!
Englishmanetc -- we are always amazed at the low prices UK friends pay for tickets to the US. Rental cars are better bargains, and flight/hotel/car packages are even better. Some have had a week at Disney for the price of airfare alone from Boston to LHR.

Ackislander- In previous years I have been able to do a bit better than $850 RT when traveling the shoulder seasons from NYC to LHR! I live in Connecticut so I have the luxury of taking flights from Boston or NYC airports based on price (NY tends to always win the fare battle). My dates are usually flexible and I fly in/out on weekdays, which helps greatly, and I started this year with looking to travel anywhere between March and May. March was the same price as May, so it was a no-brainer for me to wait for the (hopefully) warmer temps!
pdx- let us know what you end up finding. Hopefully you can catch a price drop. I do hate playing airfare roulette!

For those considering taking discount airlines from other countries after flying from the US-good luck! I hope you realize that everything that you brought on a US carrier will not be accepted on planes.ike Ryanair. Their luggage charges and sizes are so different than a US carrier that you will be paying large weight charges on your bags and sizes. In my option and others,it is easier on your body and the hassles to just fly nonstop to the UK.
Do know that the LHR airport charges US peeps over $179.00 alone fora departure fee on every ticket! It is one of the highest departure taxes of any airport!

dutyfree - I checked out the details part of the booking form. There is a hefty little departure fee though it's not called a departure fee:
United Kingdom Air Passengers Duty (GB) $102.40
United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge (UB) $60.80
We've been snagged by the luggage fees on Ryanair before so we've got our act together on that business since then. Hopefully, anyway. Our Ryanair experience was a number of years ago and who knows what little tricks they've devised since then.

One answer is don't play round trip to London. Fly to London. Take the chunnel and visit Paris. The Eurostar fare is much less on advancing booking than the obscene seat tax that the UK charges. It''s no a bit saving, but you get Paris for free.
Another trick it fly to London on Alitalia or some other non Brit national airline. They often have deals that will permit a stopover in London on the way to the home country in order to get extra North American business. Then there is always Icelandic, but they aren't as cheap as they once were.
