Airfare to Italy - Summer 2006

We're going to Umbria in late June and wondering if people know the best time to buy airfare for the summer. Right now, a flight into Rome is running about $950, but it seems like we would be able to buy cheaper than that at some point. We're flying from Minneapolis.

Speaking of our trip, we're going to stay at a place, we found on www.villainumbria.com called La Torre. Anyone familiar with the place or the website and it's reliability. They have many properties, so I'm not worried, but it's always nice to hear from people who are familiar.

Thanks.
Matt

Matt, if you are flying Northwest/KLM out of Minneapolis in late June to Itally, then I would purchase that fare before it goes up.

I read that travel to Italy is expected to be especially strong this year. If that's the case, you may not see much downward movement in fares. Something to consider.

Per CNN:

Italy placed first on the USTOA survey for the third year in a row. Rick Steves says it is the most popular destination among the buyers of his guidebooks; and it is also No. 1 among European destinations offered by American Express Vacations, which has expanded its 2006 offerings for the country to include packages in the Lakes Region, Tuscany, Umbria and Liguria.

Thanks. We'll probably watch for not much longer and just take the hit with whatever it is at the time.

I'm finding over fares over $1000 from Msp to Italy in June. Can you tell me what airline has the $950 RT? I think fares will go down but that is a guess.

The flight my friend saw was on Orbitz and was flying into Rome from Mpls, but I'm not sure which airline. It was a departure date around June 21 or 22, with a return date of July 5 or 6.
I haven't seen any that cheap, either. With taxes and all, most are $1200 or so.
