Airfare to Italy in Sept/Oct?
Hello there. I'm looking for a good price for airfare flying from San Francisco, into Rome and then out of Venice, back to San Francisco, for late Sept/early October. The best I've found is $895. Is this an ok rate? I would prefer to book the tickets for peace of mind, but this seems high to me. What do you guys think? Thank you!

I think you can watch for 60 days. I would not rate your chances very good at better than $100-125 lower. But I think your "contra" risk is not too bad (i.e. the risk of the price going higher). I'd put the "upside/downside" right at 50:50 for the next 60 days (maybe even 90?).
Assuming you see no better by June 1, and if $895 is still available to you then, I'd put your upside/downside risk at 20-30% chance of 100-125 lower, and 70-80% risk of $150-400 higher (by waiting another 30 days).
It's a little bit like blackjack, holding 15 - - except that the consequences are not quite so drastic. Making the wrong decision doesn't mean that your trip is completely "busted"!
Best wishes,
Rex

I might add - - thinking of another post today about terribly high (July) fares from the west - - it could matter a great deal whether this is weekend/weekend travel, or might include a weekday (especially Tue or Wed). And precisely _when_ in "late September". Days could matter - - I'd put considerably better odds on Tue, Sep 28 for example - - than on Sat, Sep 18.

Try www.airfare.com. I bought a ticket going from LAX to Paris, then from Rome back to LAX for only $587 on American Airlines. I am leaving on sept 7 and coming back on sept 23. Good luck!

It never fails. You really can learn something here every day. Paris sounds like it might be a good fit for beachgirlz...
Your airfare.com website has a fare on USAir of 533.01 + 97.14 (taxes, $630.15) for SFO-CDG Sep 28-Oct 12 (using arbitrarily chosen dates) - - and then you can get to Italy for 29.99 euro each way on www.volareweb.com
Would it kill you to spend a night in Paris (presumably subtracted from some part of your Italy itinerary), and save $200 in the process?
Or just keep watching...
