Airfare to Ireland

We have been looking at the airfare from New York to Ireland for July 2010. It seems exceptionally high - over $900 per person. That's twice what we paid 2 1/2 years ago... We're wondering if we should just make plans to go elsewhere, or wait a bit and see if the prices drop. Do they always start out this high, and as we get closer to the summer season, do the airlines start to run some sales and fly-drive packages?

Usually I've seen the deals in late Feb, early March. However, this year things seem to be different. I would (if I were still planning on traveling this summer) wait until late April for fare deals for the summer, but no later.

If you check other European destinations, you will see $900 per person is on the low end of fares right now. I usually travel shoulder season, when I know I can find good deals. This year I'm traveling in July and August also and finding the same high fares as you.

Last year we flew to Dublin from Philadelphia for $400 on Aer Lingus. This year the rates seem to be coming down in the past few days...good luck!

Right now if you look at the month-long view on the fares from New York to Shannon are running between $813 to a little over $900 depending on the exact date.

Taxes and fees may be additional
