Airfare to Greece??
Should I bite the bullet and pay $1500 for airfare to Greece from Los Angeles or will a miracle occur and a lower price will show up??? Can't believe that the prices never went down after the first of the year like they normally do..really having a difficult time with the thought of paying so much for airfare.

listen, born, I've been going to Greece 9 times since '99 and they always have dipped around December/Jan, but this year, the USAir nonstop from philadelphia in MAY has not BUDGED from around $1400++ since October!!!! THats only $100 less than y ours fom 3000 miles further. I gave up and booked a British Air with one stop, saved nearly $500.

I've been on the lookout for a price drop from Portland, OR and have not been successful. So far prices have leveled out around $1600 for the WORST options, meaning overly-long layovers in at least 2 other airports before arriving in Athens. In 2009 I paid around $1250.

Hey bornintheusa:-) For the most part, fares usually have taken a 'dip' around this time..a couple of years ago, Delta announced a real bargain out of JFK around March/April for May travel under $500..pretty much last minute! With the fuel prices on the rise, anyone's guess if any 'deals' will appear this year..and allot will depend on demand and how many seats are filled as time approaches! I've never booked anything further out than a month..but this is usally for travel in May, late Aug/Sept/Oct..Peak Summer months of June/July/August are always the most difficult to nail a deal on..keep an eye out at www.kayak.com/ Best..and ENjoY!

Check out the Gate 1 package to Greece. May be worth it for the airfare alone.

I saw that on TravelZoo, too, virginiafish. Looks like a great deal - Santorini, Mykonos and Athens lodging, and ferries with r/t air from New York for $1099 each.
My airfare alone was more than that for this May. |
