Airfare to Germany

I am planning a trip for two to Germany/Austria in October 2006. British Airways has quoted $987.17 to fly from San Francisco to Frankfurt then home Vienna to San Francisco. Is this reasonable? Should I wait a few more months and see what the fare does. Any suggestions from friendly Fodorite's with experience or knowledge appreciated. Thanks Barb

Anyone?

Try searching at www.kayak.com. It seems high.

I always look at a bunch of sites to research airfares. For some reasons I have never felt like I found the best deal on BA's site. Compare at Kayak, Travelocity, and Orbitz to see itf they are in the ballpark.

Thanks for the sites, I will check them out. Barb

I checked Kayak. What a great site. Too bad the best they could come up with $996.00. I especially liked that they showed how long the flights are. Makes me want to fly non-stop for sure. :) I think I will keep looking for a bit. Thanks everyone for the help. Barb

Try different days of the week if you can, like Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon - the price may be very different.

Also sign up with Orbitz and Travelocity fare watcher and maybe Travelzoo specials.

It may not work, but try OAK too, not only SFO.

You could also try mobissimo:

Babs

I have found $851, including taxes, but I dont know your precise dates.

I bet i can beat anything else anyone has found - and I'm not, nor do I know, a travel agent.

Post the dates or date range you want and I'll go to work..

Babs,
We fly out of Seattle and length os flight is really important to us. A 9 hour flight over the pole is a whole lot easier to survive than and 17 hour flight that connects through Detroit or Newark.

Are you going for Octoberfest? Check your dates. It could be higher then. Usually you get the best deal three months in advance. Can you wait until July? to book.

BabsB Jan 19th, 2006 11:21 AM

Thank you for the help. We have a glitch in our plans. We were planning on going for Octoberfest. Leaving appx 9-13 and coming home 10-1 or so. The glitch....my son is going away to college for the first time and of course I have to go help him move in, get settled and boo hoo a bit. :) He has applied to 6 colleges all with different move in dates ranging from late August to mid October. He will get acceptance letter in mid March (hopefully) and then make his decision where he wants to go. Then I can firm up my travel dates. We may miss Octoberfest...oh well. Sure am glad I did not assume all the colleges started up in August. So, I will definitely have to wait until mid March or so to confirm dates and start looking for tickets again. And please no comments from anyone that he is an adult and I don't have to help move him. He's an only child, and I want to help. :) Barb

Aramis,

How about trying this flight?
Boston,MA to Rome

Leave Boston May 19, 2006
Leave Rome to return May 27, 2006.

I'm seeing a lot of $850 -$900 fares. Should I wait as bit longer?

Thanks,
cesca1

Hi Jack :-)

I am seeing the same $850 - $900 range, again inclusive of taxes.

Some interesting options though;

If you want to leave on the 20th your can save $200 - I see $725-$750 deals.

Or you can fly into Rome and out of another Italian city for around the $900 mark.
