Airfare to Europe spring 2024

I jus started looking at airfare for our trip to Spain & Portugal next April-May. I’ve read that 3-4 months is generally the time to book. However, when I look at seat availability it seems like they’re getting booked. I know tourism is up significantly! I track flights regularly & see the daily fluctuations. I’m tempted to book if I find a fare that’s in the price range I want. How fare out are you booking? I’d like to hear your thoughts!

We booked our Los Angeles - Madrid nonstop tickets on Iberia for September 2023 six months in advance and got good airfare. But now I've changed the trip to December so any savings I got for advance preparation went out the window!

If I'm happy with the price and can find lodging I book. At that point I close my eyes and ignore any price fluctuations.

Generally for International flights I start looking 4-6 months out but post Covid flying is different so it is difficult to make any predictions. If I found flights that I liked at a price I liked I would book it. I subscribe to a service that finds good fares and I am already seeing some decent fares out of San Francisco to Paris depending on dates to May.

Once I book, I don’t look back. It would make me crazy!

We generally book flights in February for May-June trips. This year we booked in April and the prices were much higher, although it was also reported that prices had jumped from the previous year.
