Airfare to Athens - is this normal?

I just played on expedia with airfare for my trip to Greece next summer, and it's showing $1,200/per person for a non stop flight to Athens. Is that a normal price from PHL to Athens?

I've been to Italy and other places in Europe and have never paid that much (I think it cost 750 or so when I went to Italy 2 yrs ago), so I'm wondering if it's because I'm trying to book so early... Or is it just b/c of outrageous fuel prices? Tia!

Don't forget the exchange rate.

I would grab those cheap tickets while you can. We just flew to Athens from JFK and an Economy ticket on Olympic was $1300. We decided to upgrade and paid $3500 for Business Class seats.

You may get cheaper if you do a stop-over, but then you are wasting time that could be spent on holiday.

Wow didnt realize that was considered cheap! I better book soon. Thx

I'm checking Continental for next April and it's a little over $1000.00 per person. Maybe it's cheaper because it's April and not summer?

Shortcake,

The lowest fare I've ever seen from Philly to Athens (on US Airways, since it's direct) is $800 -- but I've seen it go as high as $1950, too. So for the peace of mind of booking well in advance, the $1200 fare sounds pretty reasonable. Not the cheapest you might get, but not nearly the worst either.

Hmmmmmmm. It's for my honeymoon and FI's parents are paying ... sounds like we better hit them up for a check soon then!

I booked our tx's from PHL to ATH in February..for travel this September and paid 650 on US Air.

Take it shortcake, I paid $1,650.00 for my grandaughter ticket , luckily mine was free because I used my FFMiles.

Two years ago I purchased 3 tickets and paid only $2,100..Times are changed, the gasoline is more expensive now..

I am paying 1300.00 for the end of Sept. About 300.00 of it is the fees and taxes which makes all the prices seem very high compared to what I paid to go to Europe a few years ago.

$1200 is definitely a good price for summer.

Go to hotelclub.net
Book Air France via Paris to Athens and for two persons you pay in April all together 1592.22 USD

We used FF miles but the paid ticket was $1755 from Denver to Athens. I watched for awhile so $1200 is pretty normal.

I would rather swim to Greece than fly USAir out of Philly. They are the only airline to lose my luggage---and they did it 3x in a two-year period.

The airfare is probably cheap because they don't feed you and charge you for a drink.
